Binge Or Cringe, Hunters Review: This Amazon Prime Show Serves Revenge Just Perfectly
Amazon Prime Video’s new show Hunters is a story based on revenge, world war and conspiracy theories. Is it binge-worthy enough? Read our review to know more
We have heard the saying that ‘Revenge is a dish best served cold’ but what it exactly means is to seek revenge when your enemy is least expecting it, or give more time to take get revengeful so that your motives get the perfect rational explanation.
Before you start thinking that we’re hatching a plan to take revenge, let’s make it clear that it’s not happening. But someone in Amazon Prime Videos’ new show Hunters is definitively planning something on these lines.
Hunters is primarily a story based on revenge but it’s inspired by true events and one of those events is about ‘Operation Paperclip’. Here’s a fun fact- After World War 2, the USA government had recruited 1600 Nazi scientists, engineers and doctors.
So speaking of this show, Hunters is set in 1977 and the story is about a teenager Jew Jonah whose grandmom is killed under very suspicious circumstances. Then enters Mayer, a World War and concentration camp survivor, his character is played by Al Pacino. He’s the mastermind of an underground team who kills Nazis and brings them to justice.
Jonah makes himself a part of this infamous team to seek revenge for the death of his grandmother. Cannot reveal anything further because that would only mean giving away too many spoilers.
Beep Meter- In the beginning of each episode, Prime Videos issues a warning. There is nudity involved, but not to titillate the viewers, there’s also violence, use of abusive language but they haven’t gone overboard on any of these parameters. Our only piece of advice is to not watch the show with the children.
Hunters is a fictionalized show with the right mix of real events, world war theories and conspiracies. The only problem with the show is the duration as each episode goes up to an hour. The story could have been wrapped up in 8 episodes, but it tends to stretch at several instances.
The positive side is there are several reasons to watch this show- the concept is unique with a pinch of satire, performances by the actors are top-notch, there is enough suspense, FBI, US and Soviet cold war references too.
We also see some dangerous and not so dangerous Nazis and Nazi Hunters too. The story also has interesting twists. Speaking of the technical aspect, then the shot designing and production value is really good and adds value to the show.
So, our verdict is the show is binge-worthy.
